Mr Smith gets to the end of 2014 and takes time to do the annual report, how did he go?…

As we ended the year I thought it would be interesting to look back at few things I have done this year, compare with previous years and grade myself.

My Strava year end summary – Numbers will be a lot higher for me next year

Due to doing the house up most of the summer I did not not get out anywhere near as much as I would have liked.  Had to make do with rides on the hybrid on the trainer.  Well short of the original target of 2014 miles, but when that was set I was not planning to spend the whole summer doing DIY.  I have stated running this year, but kept getting problems with he Achilles and bronchitis. Target for this coming year is 4000 miles in total, with a stretch of 5000.  These can either be on the mountain bike, the trainer, rowing or running.

Good to have maintained the weight this year.  Need to work on the body fat a bit more but if I can get anywhere near the mileage target that will take are of itself

Restaurants

I was very lucky to go to some amazing restaurants last year.  I will be doing some retrospective blog posts so will not say too much, but the ones I have loved and had a great time at have been:

  • The Clove Club – London
  • The Typing Room (several times) – London
  • Craft house (several times) – Leeds
  • Cinnamon Club – London
  • Red Lantern – Sydney
  • Quay – Sydney
  • Est. – Sydney
  • Marque – Sydney
  • Cafe Sydney – Sydney
  • Cuttler & Co – Melbourne
  • Movida – Melbourne
  • The Press Club – Melbourne
  • ChinChin – Melbourne
  • Lucy Luis – Melbourne
  • Vue de Monde – Melbourne

Grade = B+

Although I have done a lot and some very nice ones I am greedy and want to explore more.

Street Food

Well, this has been an amazing year for Street Food, as you can probably tell for other posts already.

  • Street Feast – loads of time
  • Riverside Feast
  • British Street Food Awards – Regional in London and final in Leeds
  • Auction Against Hunger
  • Meatopia – 2 days
Grade = A
Pretty good year all round for street food, hope that continues next year

Travel

The last year was really focused on one trip, which was to Australia.  Only 2 weeks, but I loved every minute of it, catching up with friends and contacts, meeting new people, seeing great places, relaxing, doing a 10k and visiting some amazing restaurants and trying great wines.  Next year could be interesting if plans come together

Grade = B

Hotels

Not such a varied year for hotels for me this time round, but that is going to change again next year with a few places already booked

  • Town Hall Hotel & Apartments – Bethnal Green, London (several times)
  • Ampersand – London
  • No 5 Maddox Street – London
Grade = C
Overall, a pretty good year for most things.  Even though I do a lot of these things as ‘Mr Smith’ the times with a ‘Mrs Smith’ have been great and it does make things better sharing them but I am not going to miss out and will continue to have adventures

Roll on 2015, have a great New Year

Goals for 2015 – Get a work related qualification, smash all pb’s in running and get some long distance bike rides in.  Do an initial wine tasting qualification, really explore different cooking techniques and plan the trip of a lifetime to be done in 2015 or 2016
