The Kimchi Project – 26th Feb 2019

After a lovely relaxing day out and about in Auckland and Mission Bay I got the bus back in to town to get ready for dinner.  I had the idea of heading to a Yakitori and Sake bar, but although I love Sake I spotted a place on the walk back to the hotel.  It instantly grabbed me, the secret garden sign, small entrance and prospect of Korean Food made me completely change plans and a good change it was as well.

After a quick freshen up at the hotel I was off to The Kimchi Project…

When I arrived I was quite early in terms of the evening and it took a while for the service to get sorted out, but that improved as the evening went on.

A really interesting short menu for dinner and I was desperately avoiding ordering the buns, I love them but always gravitate in that direction, so was going to opt for something different.  In the end I went for the Salmon Sashimi Salad, which was delicious, fresh, vibrant and a lovely gentle heat.

This was followed up with the Beef Bulgogi, which was served very nicely, all separate and allowing me to build my own.  My normal experience of Bulgogi is everything together, so this was good.  I also had a side of cucumber Kimchi, which was interesting and very different the normal kimchi.  The Bulgogi was delicious but could have done with a bit more heat for me.

The wines were interesting on the list and could to see some organic on the list.  The Gewürztraminer I had to start was good with a nice mouth feel, but a little too sweet for what I was looking for (my fault for ordering it).  The Organic Pinot Gris was more in line with what I was after and it was delicious.

So that was the Kimchi Project, a lovely way to spend my last evening in Auckland
